Date and Nut Loaf

I recently ran across this old date and nut loaf recipe. It produces a very delicious, extra moist date bread that I just haven’t been able to get enough of lately. I’ve made it several times in the last couple of weeks. It’s just so darn good!

Did you know that dates are really good for you? I guess my Grandmother did, because I remember that she often made this recipe. Besides being very high in both fiber and potassium, dates are also extremely rich in anti-oxidants.

This date bread smells really good when it’s cooking (I’ve got one in the oven right now!) but it tastes even better!

Did I mention that this recipe is quick and easy? Hope you enjoy. Here we go:

  1. That looks so delicious!
I’ve never had dates – do they taste like something I might be more familiar with? Fig newtons, lol?

    • Not sure what they would really compare to. I remember I didn’t care for them much as a kid, except in date nut bread. Here’s some more info: All About Dates

      • Hey thanks for the link! I am going to have to try some now. They remind me of giant raisins. Or dried plums.

        • Whole dates can be eaten in place of a piece of candy. They’re very sweet.

In this recipe, you soak the chopped dates in boiling water before adding them to the batter. This softens the texture & taste quite a bit. Even if you don’t care for the dates by themselves, I think you will like them baked in this bread.

This bread is good with a cream cheese spread.

  2. Wow!
Easy to do and the taste is absolutely delightfull. You are right when you mention it smells so good in the house while baking. I am a baker and been in the industry for 40 years and this loaf cake is a treasure. I take a good slice for my break when i go skiing Do not put it too low in the oven because the bottom will bee too dark since it yis a 1 hour bake

  3. My mother made Date Nut Loaf when I was growing up. I have no idea what happened to her recipe. If this recipe is close to hers, it will be delicious!
